몇 년 전부터 흘러온 한류의 바람이 미국 내의 뷰티 블로그 내에서도 뜨겁다. 그 인기와 더불어 한국식 화장법과 한국의 여배우들, 또는 아이돌 그룹의 화장법을 소개해주는 한인 2세 블로거들의 인기가 하늘을 치솟고 있다.

그중 Beautifymeeh란 블로그를 운영중인 Angel(이하 엔젤)이라는 뷰티 블로거는 나긋나긋하고 친절한 말투와 그리 비싸지 않은 화장품들, 특히 여러 종류의 한국 화장품들을 포스팅하며 꼼꼼하고 세심한 정보와 글로 많은 독자들이 궁금해하는 한국의 다양한 화장법 노하우를 전해주고 있다.

그녀는 138,291명의 독자들이 자주 찾는 유투브 채널과 32,000건의 Like가 넘는 페이스 북, 블로그 등을 관리하고 있는 인기 블로거. 예쁜 얼굴만큼이나 예쁜 마음씨를 가진 그녀는 최근 귀여운 아들의 엄마가 되어 바쁜 나날들 속에서도 아주 정성스럽게 인터뷰에 응해주었다. 
 

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your blog, and what keep you inspired about your writing? 
본인과 블로그에 대해서 간단히 설명을 해주시고 글을 쓸땐 어디서 영감을 받는지 말씀해 주세요.

_ My name is Angel, also known as beautifymeeh.  I am a blogger/youtuber/mom/wife.  It has been almost two years since I started my blog and making youtube videos.  I graduated with an education major and certified to teach preschool-sixth so obviously I love to teach. 
That is one thing that inspired me to start my own blog and youtube.  I wanted to inspire other girls out there and help them to feel better about themselves from teaching them my beauty and makeup tips.  My subscribers and followers keeps me motivated and makes me want to keep writing blog posts. 

제 이름은 앤젤이고 온라인에선  뷰티파이미라고 알려져있습니다. 블로거이며 유투버, 엄마, 그리고 아내이지요. 제 블로그와 유툽비디오를 만든지는 2년정도 되었습니다.
대학땐 교육학을 전공했고 초등학교선생님 자격증이 있습니다. 워낙 가르치는걸 좋아해서 다른 여성분들이 나의 화장법을 통해 자신감을 얻을수있다면 그것이 제게 영감이 됩니다. 제 블로그의 구독자들과 팔로어들이 제게 모든 영감이 됩니다.


2. As a beauty blogger, you constantly find new products at your finger tips. Tell me about new and/or latest products that you found recently, that you think are amazing.
뷰티 블로거로써 자주 새로운 제품들을 찾게될텐데, 최근 발견한 상품중 대단히 근사하다고 느낀 제품이 있다면 알려주세요.

_ Since I am a freelance makeup artist as well, I own a variety of makeup brushes from different companies.  A recent makeup brush set that I have discovered and have been in love with is my Secret Line Brush Set from a Korean brand called Mustaev. 

These brushes are very high quality, professional, soft, and the bristles are smaller than American brand brushes so it is suitable to use on Asian eyes.  I recently also bought the SK-II toner back in October.  My skin broke out so much after pregnancy and after using this toner, I have been seeing a lot of improvements with my acne! 

저는 프리랜스 메이크업 아티스트로도 일하고 있기때문에 여러 다른 회사들의 메이크업 브러쉬를 갖고 있어요. 최근에 발견한 한국 제품중 Mustaev라는 브랜드에서 나온 브러시가 아주 품질도 뛰어나고 부드러우면서도 털자체가 미국브랜드 브러시보다도 작게 나와서 동양인들이 사용하기에 좋은것 같아요.

또 최근엔 SK-II에서 나온 토너를 샀어요. 임신을 하고나서 제 피부 문제가 많이 있었는데 이 토너를 사용하고 난후엔 제얼굴의 여드름도 없어지고 아주 많이 좋아졌어요.

3. Could you share any special make-up tips that you have learned along the way?
본인만의 아주 특별한 메이크 업 팁이 있으면 공유해주세요.

_Try not to apply too much face makeup. 
Sometimes less is better! Too much foundation will just damage your skin and cause problems in the future.  A concealer can be used to cover up your small imperfections like sun spots or dark circles.  Instead of applying foundation all over the face, try applying foundation only on areas where it is really needed.

너무 두껍게 피부 메이크업자체를 하지 않는게 좋죠, 가끔은 좀 모자란듯 바르는게 낫아요. 너무 많은 양의 파운데이션은 피부를 상하게 할뿐이니까요, 컨실러역시도 다크 써클이나 선 스폿같은 작은 피부트러블만 커버하는데 조금씩 사용하는게 좋고 얼굴전체에 파운데이션을 바르는것보단 꼭 필요한 부분만 조금씩 발라줘야 하구요.


4. All beauty bloggers have their favorite brands or items. Could you share a couple of items that you cannot live without?
모든 뷰티블로거들이 각자 가장 선호하는 브랜드나 제품이 있는데 앤젤씨도 이게 없으면 절대 안된다 싶은 제품들이 있으면 공유해주세요.

_My Holy Grail eyeliner which I have been using five years, is the blacktrack fluidline from MAC.  This is my favorite gel eyeliner!  It applies very easily and smoothly when using an eyeliner brush, doesn’t smudge, doesn’t crack, and highly waterproof.  My favorite concealer is the Bobbi Brown concealer stick in warm sand shade. Bobbi Brown products have a slight yellow undertone to it, which is perfect for Asian skin tones. 

제겐 절대 없어서는 안될 아이라이너인데 5년동안 사용해온 MAC 의 blacktrack fluidline 이에요. 제가 가장 사랑하는 젤 아이라이너죠!

아이라이너 브러쉬로 사용하면 너무 쉽고 부드럽게 발라지면서 절대 번지거나 선이 깨지지않고 방수효과도 대단해요. Bobbi Brown 컨실러역시 따뜻한 샌드 섀이드로 좋아해요. 바비 브라운 제품들이 약간의 노란색을 언더톤으로 갖고있어서 동양인들의 피부에 적합한거 같아요.

 

5. I hear people saying a lot that you look like Jessica from the girl group SNSD. Who do you admire or look up to as your beauty icon, and why?
블로그에 팔로워들의 얘기를 들어보면 엔젤씨가 소녀시대의 제시카를 닮았다는  얘기를 많이 하던데 엔젤씨가 좋아하는 뷰티 아이콘은 누구이고 그 이유는 뭐죠?

_I have been hearing that a lot ever since I started youtube, but I don’t see it at all! The only person that I think I look like is my mom!  One person that I admire is a Korean Actress named Kim Hee Sun.  She has been my role model ever since I was a little girl.  I always thought she was the prettiest person on earth! 

I love everything about her : how her makeup is always natural and not too much, her long gorgeous hair, and having a perfect life with a handsome husband and a cute child!
 
네, 제가 유투브을 시작하고 난 다음부터 그 이야기를 저도 많이 들었는데 전혀요!
제가 닮은 사람은 그냥 제 엄마밖에 없는거 같아요.  제가 좋아하는 여성은 한국여배우 김희선이에요. 어렸을적부터 제 롤 모델이였고 너무 아름다운 여성이라 생각해요. 너무 진하지 않은 자연스런 화장, 아름다운 긴 머리, 멋진 남편과 귀여운 아기까지 갖은 그녀의 인생은 아주 완벽해보여요.


6. You have been showing and depicting many various images through many different types of make-up. What is your personal favorite make-up style?
엔젤씨는 여러 다른 화장법을 통해서 다양한 이미지를 보여주고 계신데 개인적으로 가장 좋아하는 화장법은 뭔가요?

_My favorite makeup style is the light and natural “Korean Style” makeup.  Many Korean celebrities wear makeup where it looks like they don’t have anything on at all. I have noticed that so many girls from all over the world are inspired by this and enjoy whenever I film a Korean celebrity inspired makeup tutorial. 

Although I have filmed numerous makeup tutorials using dark colors and smokey eyes, I hardly ever go out anywhere like that.  I always wear minimal eye makeup and like to use light shadow colors like white, pink, and gold.

제가 가장 좋아하는 화장법은 역시 자연스럽고 가벼운 “한국 스타일” 메이크업이에요. 많은 한국여배우들의 화장이 거의 안한것처럼 화장을 하잖아요.
 
제가 한국 여배우들의 화장법 튜터리얼 비디오를 올리면 전 세계의 많은 분들이 굉장히 좋아하세요. 제가 진한 색과 스모키한 눈화장 투터리얼을 해도 저 역시 보통때는 거의 그런화장을 하지않아요. 눈화장도 최대한 적게하고 화이트, 핑크, 골드같이 연한 색을 좋아합니다.

7. Besides owning your beauty blog, what other activities or hobbies keep you happy?
블로그 활동 외 다른 취미생활은 무엇인가요?

Music has always been a great part of my life.  I have been playing the piano and cello for over 13 years.  I was in the orchestra since middle school and until I graduated high school.  My husband and I both love photography.
He is a freelance photographer and videographer. All the professional outdoor pictures of me that are posted on my website are taken by my husband.

음악은 제인생에서 빠질수없는 부분이죠. 피아노와 첼로를 13년동안 했고 중학교때부터 고등학교 졸업할때까지 학교 오케스트라에 있었어요.
제 남편과 저 모두 사진찍는걸 좋아하고 남편은 프리랜스 사진작가겸 비디오작가에요. 제 웹사이트에 올라오는 야외사진 모두가 제 남편이 촬영한거죠.


8. What make-up trend do you see big and hot for Spring 2013?
2013년 봄엔 어떤 메이크업 유행이 인기를 얻게 될까요?

Light green eye shadow and coral lips!  I am planning on filming a Spring Makeup Tutorial soon using these bright shades of colors!

연한 초록색 눈화장과 산호색 립스틱컬러요! 이 환한 색들의 메이크업으로 곧 봄 화장법 튜터리얼 비디오를 촬영할 계획이에요.

9. What do you think are the factors that make a person, truly beautiful? 
진정 아름다운 사람을 만드는 요소는 무어라 생각하세요?

A person’s heart, personality, confidence, success, and smile.  I define true beauty as how a person is in the inside and not their outer beauty.  My favorite beauty quote is, “A pretty face is nothing if you have an ugly heart”. 

그 사람의 마음, 성격, 자신감, 성공과 미소죠. 겉으로 보여지는 아름다움보단 내면의 아름다움이 역시 진정한 아름다움이라 생각해요. 아름다움에 관해 내가 가장 좋아하는 인용 어문이 “만약 당신이 못난 마음을 가지고 있다면 아름다운 얼굴도 아무 소용없다” 라는 말이죠.


10.  Last but not least, what helpful advice would you give to anyone who wants to start her own beauty blog? And a few words to your Korean readers?
 마지막으로 자신만의 뷰티 블로그를 시작하고 싶어하는 분들께 조언과, 우리 한국 독자들에게도 한마디 해주세요.
 
Just be yourself and honest.  It’s great to have a place that you can go to express your own feelings, thoughts, ideas, and beauty tips with others!  Make sure to state your honest opinions about every product that you review. For my Korean readers, THANK YOU SO MUCH! 

I am always shocked to see that I have so many Korean subscribers.  On my youtube demography tab for the top countries that watches my videos, South Korea is always ranked #2.  I get a lot of comments and emails asking if I speak in Korean or have subtitles for my videos because they can’t understand.  One of my New Year’s resolutions for this year will be to have Korean subtitles in my videos and also Korean translation for my blog posts. Once again, thank you!
